Can you use your health expertise to strengthen capacity of healthcare providers and contribute to improving quality of services in Sudan?

UK-Med is a humanitarian NGO that has been responding to disasters for thirty years. We train medical teams, both in the UK and worldwide, so they are ready to respond when epidemics, conflict and natural disasters hit.

We are seeking three health professionals to join us as part-time Health Referents for our new remote TeleHealth and Capacity Building project in Sudan. The MDT Leads will be drawn from either Emergency Department, General Surgical and Trauma & Orthopaedic Doctors, with the expectation that there will be one of each of these specialities as the leads.

The MDT Leads will be coordinated by UK-Med’s Health Advisor for TeleHealth and together they will co-lead a Multidisciplinary Team who will be providing specialist advice and support directly to Sudanese clinicians in two different facilities on a weekly basis. The MDT Leads will have an additional pool of specialist REACHES Health Referents to draw on for the weekly sessions.

The REACHES Health Referents will bring specific technical expertise in a variety of health fields to ensure that clinicians and allied healthcare workers in the two Sudanese facilities receive professional development, specialist advice, continuous support and professional sparring, ultimately ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.

As one of the MDT Lead REACHES Health Referents, you will work closely with UK-Med’s Health Advisor for TeleHealth to provide clinical / technical health expertise and advice, contributing to our work through:

  • Preparing and facilitating weekly online sessions to discuss patient cases with Sudanese counterparts.
  • Providing ad hoc specialist advice on less complex patient cases in between weekly reach-back sessions as needed.
  • Providing appropriate and contextualised clinical advice and guidance for Sudanese clinicians as well as signposting to recent developments and current best practice.
  • Helping design SoPs, policies and guidance documents for your field of expertise as appropriate.
  • Developing capacity building interventions (e.g. training sessions, online learning packages, coaching) to develop skills of Sudanese colleagues.
  • Contribution to reporting and documentation of REACHES project.

Our ideal candidates will be highly skilled health professionals with experience of humanitarian health responses and delivering healthcare services in low resource environments. You will be available to facilitate 1-2 weekly online reach-back sessions of approx. 2-3 hours’ duration and flexible to respond to requests in between sessions. You will be passionate about improving health services in Sudan, and flexible to deliver advice and input remotely, testing new tools and adaptable to a changing context.

We offer competitive remuneration and benefits along with a friendly working environment and the opportunity to make a real difference through your work.

Please apply below, as soon as possible and no later than Friday 14th March 2025.
