Job description

What will I be doing?

Through our waste contract with Greater Manchester Combined Authority, SUEZ has committed to setting up re-use shops on our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) to resell donated items and generate £300,000 annually to be reinvested in social projects in Greater Manchester.

As a shop operative, you will be in charge of the daily running of our re-use shop, based at Boysnope Wharf HWRC and other locations around Greater Manchester. You will liaise with the re-use hub manager to ensure the shop is fully stocked and that everything is properly stored or made ready for sale.

This will involve:

• Merchandising stock, organising, preparing, pricing, and presenting donations for sale to increase sales and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Managing stock and communicating to the re-use hub manager about stock needs.
• Operating the cash register, counting/reconciling cash and credit card receipts, processing returns and refunds.
• Ensuring goods are sold at appropriate values and rejected items are disposed of properly.
• Arranging collections and deliveries efficiently and cost-effectively.
• Maintaining the security of the shop premises, stock, and cash.

You will be expected to promote the values of the shop and the charitable nature of the re-use scheme in Greater Manchester, providing excellent customer service to encourage repeat business and ensure the smooth and profitable operation of the shop.

What are the requirements?

You should be passionate about the environment and the re-use project, with prior retail experience and enthusiasm for excellent customer service.

Knowledge of recycling and upcycling is desirable, or willingness to develop it rapidly. You should understand stock management, merchandising, and handling financial aspects of retail, along with:

• A flexible attitude to shift work and weekends.
• The confidence to work alone initially in the re-use shop until volunteers are recruited.
• Excellent teamwork skills to work closely with site staff at HWRCs.
