Are you a passionate and reflective RE Teacher ready to inspire students with engaging lessons on religion, philosophy, and ethics?

GSL Education are recruiting for a dedicated RE Teacher to join a welcoming mainstream secondary school in Portsmouth, Hampshire, starting in September 2025. This is a full-time, permanent role offering a salary of £30,000 – £50,000 per annum, depending on experience. Applications are welcomed from Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) holders, Early Career Teachers (ECTs), and suitably qualified overseas-trained teachers.

This is an excellent opportunity to encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and respect for diverse beliefs while helping students develop key skills in reflection and debate.

Main Responsibilities of a Religious Education (RE) Teacher:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging RE lessons in line with the national curriculum
  • Teach across Key Stages, adapting lessons to meet the needs of different learners
  • Encourage critical thinking, discussion, and respect for cultural and religious diversity
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback and support
  • Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment where all views are valued
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively in line with school policies
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Humanities department and wider school community
  • Contribute to extracurricular activities such as clubs, debates, or trips that enrich students’ learning

Teacher of RE Requirements:

  • QTS, ECT, or overseas-qualified teacher status
  • A degree in Religious Education, Theology, Humanities, or a related subject area
  • Prior experience working as a RE Teacher or similar across secondary schools.
  • Strong subject knowledge and passion for teaching RE
  • Ability to inspire students and promote curiosity and open-mindedness
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students
  • Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
