Job description

Join us as a Rates eTrading System Engineer at Barclays, where you'll spearhead the evolution of our digital landscape, driving innovation and excellence. You'll harness cutting-edge technology to revolutionise our digital offerings. We are looking for someone with strong business knowledge, someone who wants to be on the trade-floor as much as possible, facing off to the Trading Desk, and capable of communicating effectively with both Trading and developers in a pressured environment.

To be successful in this role, you should have experience with:

  1. Strong eTrading Business knowledge and expertise (preferably Rates, but other asset classes are also acceptable)
  2. Confident communication skills to face off to both Front Office Trading and technical developers
  3. Strong Unix skills

Additional valued skills include:

  1. Experience managing and prioritizing a book of work to remediate issues and enhance the product
  2. Experience with monitoring and observability tools like Elastic, Geneos ITRS, and Grafana
  3. Aptitude for understanding relevant technologies and investigating logs to identify production issues

This role will be based in our London office.

Purpose of the role

To apply software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response, ensuring the reliability, availability, and scalability of systems, platforms, and technologies.

Accountabilities
  1. Ensure availability, performance, and scalability of systems through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
  2. Respond to system outages and disruptions, analyze issues, and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
  3. Develop tools and scripts to automate operational processes, reducing manual workload and improving system resilience.
  4. Monitor and optimize system performance and resource usage.
  5. Collaborate with development teams to integrate best practices for reliability, scalability, and performance into the software development lifecycle.
  6. Stay informed of industry trends and contribute to organizational technology communities.
