Job summary

West Suffolk Council is seeking a motivated Senior Ranger to cover parks and open spaces across the district. Based at East Town Park in Haverhill, you will supervise a small team of Rangers and work with the Green Spaces and Heritage team.

The role includes public liaison, conservation and maintenance work, working with volunteers, patrols, and supporting events and site security. A full driving licence is required and there are generous benefits and a clear commitment to climate action.

Job description

Based at East Town Park in Haverhill, we are seeking a motivated individual with knowledge of countryside management and biodiversity to work as a Senior Ranger across a number of parks and open spaces in the district of West Suffolk. You will operate from East Town Park and supervise a small team of Rangers. The new post holder will be joining the West Suffolk Green Spaces and Heritage team. The team manage a significant number of parks and open spaces across West Suffolk including: Nowton Park, East Town Park, Brandon Country Park, Aspal Close Nature Reserve and Abbey Gardens. The role is varied and will involve:

• being a point of contact for the public and stakeholders
• undertaking and supervising conservation and maintenance work
• working with volunteer groups
• carrying out patrols
• assisting in the running of events and site security.

What you will need

The council has declared a climate and biodiversity emergency and is committed to working towards net zero emissions by 2039.
• Salary: Starting £34,237 - £39,481 per annum plus excellent employee benefits package
• Hours: 37 hours per week (average) on a fixed rota, based on1929 annualised hours per year
• Contract: Permanent, holiday entitlement of 25 days, increasing to 29 days after 5 years (pro rata if part time) plus bank holidays (with an option to buy up to 10 extra days each year subject to approval)
