Job description

Location: Loughborough
Hourly Rate: £12.21
Contract type: Permanent
Working hours: Monday-Thursday 07:30-16:00, Friday 07:30-12:30 (may also include some weekend working once settled into the role as the Ranger rota covers 7 days a week - to be discussed once started)

About the role

An exciting opportunity is available to join the Ranger team in Loughborough and is the perfect role for someone with an interest in conservation to work alongside an experienced team of Rangers, supporting with maintaining and conserving beautiful, visitor & environment friendly parks and open spaces in the local area.

As a Ranger you will

  • Follow existing management plans, deliver and organise work with conservation volunteer groups, leading environmental tasks.
  • Patrol wildlife areas, reporting any access or security issues and incidents of anti-social behaviour/criminal damage to the line manager.
  • Promote environmental engagement through liaising with individuals, groups and partner organisations.
  • Carry out wildlife surveys and keep records of flora and fauna.
  • Create habitats to encourage and protect wildlife.
  • Planting and cutting down trees.
  • Clearing vegetation from ponds/watercourses.
  • Felling and processing trees up to 380mm.


Requirements

  • Previous experience working in a similar role, either in horticulture/environmental or volunteering organisations.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Full UK driving license is essential.
  • After a successful probation period, the right individual could be given the opportunity to undertake a recognised qualification relating to Environmental Conservation.
  • PA1/PA6 spraying certificates would be advantageous but training can be provided if required.
