We’re looking for a Ranger to join us on a permanent basis to help care for the 21,000-acre mountain landscape of the Carneddau and Glyderau. You’ll play an important role in protecting this special place for wildlife and people, now and for the future. You’ll work 37.5 hours per week. A typical working week is Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, although occasional weekend, Bank Holiday and evening working may be required.
You’ll be part of the National Trust Ranger team based in Nant Ffrancon near Bethesda. The landscape is spectacular but conditions can be challenging, so you’ll spend significant time working outdoors throughout the year. You’ll work closely with farm tenants, volunteers and the local community, many of whom are Welsh-speaking, so the ability to communicate in Welsh is essential for this role. We’re proud of the role the Welsh language plays in the places and communities we care for across Wales and will support you to continue developing your skills and confidence in using Welsh at work.
As a Ranger, you’ll help protect habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery, ensuring conservation work and outdoor experiences are delivered to a high standard. You’ll carry out practical estate maintenance and nature recovery work across Carneddau and Glyderau. Tasks include fencing, dry-stone walling, repairing gates and stiles, tree planting, surveying countryside furniture, and operating and maintaining machinery including tractors and chainsaws. You’ll also work with volunteer and educational groups on conservation tasks such as gorse and bracken management. Just as importantly, you’ll share your knowledge with visitors and local communities, helping people understand and enjoy this special landscape.
