Railway On Track Machine Driver / Operator

Rhomberg Sersa is currently hiring Driver Operators/Maintainers. This is a key role within the Operations department, responsible for driving and operating On Track Machines, including Ballast Cleaners, Tampers, and Regulators, on the Irish Rail network.


We seek individuals eager to work in a dynamic environment, capable of working weekends and nights. No prior rail industry experience is required as full training will be provided. Candidates must pass relevant railway medicals, psychometric, and aptitude tests.

Rhomberg Sersa Ireland specializes in rail industry services, part of the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group (RSRG), providing track maintenance services to Irish Rail through the operation of On Track Machines (OTMs).

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely operate OTMs (tampers, ballast cleaners, etc.) on the Irish Rail network in compliance with Irish rules and regulations.
  • Perform front-line maintenance and troubleshoot faults and failures.
  • Conduct maintenance and safety checks, assisting specialist fitters with machine breakdowns or issues.
  • Follow vehicle maintenance instructions and operator manuals for duties.
  • Maintain clear communication with Control Room / Help Desk, verbally and in writing.
  • Adhere to safety standards and emergency procedures.
  • Observe signals and report irregularities immediately.
  • Maintain route knowledge and stay updated with new standards and training.
Qualifications and Skills

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 9 years of education (up to Leaving Cert level).
  • Valid full road vehicle driving license.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

  • Computer skills: Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Flexible, honest, punctual, with good communication skills.
  • Willing to undertake ongoing training.
  • Ability to work weekends and nights.
  • Experience with diesel, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic plant.
  • Apprenticeship in Mechanical or Electrical disciplines preferred.
  • Mechanically minded, team-oriented.

Compensation & Benefits

Starting salary: €35K, progressing to approximately €65K after 9 months of training.
