Job summary

Mindful Chef, a proud B Corp in the UK, seeks a Rails Engineer to design, develop and maintain high-quality Rails web applications. You will join a small, collaborative team building scalable features for the platform and user experience.

You will work across backend and frontend stacks with Hotwire, Tailwind, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Sidekiq, focusing on performance, reliability and code quality while influencing architecture in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional Rails web app development.
  • Strong Rails practice with Hotwire.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Tailwind CSS.
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq.
  • Experience deploying on Heroku and AWS.
  • Proficient in Git/GitHub for version control and CI/CD.
  • Able to collaborate in cross-functional teams and deliver on timelines.
  • Knowledge of performance optimization, testing and debugging in Rails.
  • Product-focused with emphasis on user experience and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and maintain Ruby on Rails applications adhering to standards.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to implement features.
  • Identify and implement performance, scalability, and maintainability improvements.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure quality and consistency across the team.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain documentation for systems, components, and processes.
  • Contribute to platform architecture discussions and propose improvements.
  • Work within agile/iterative development processes to deliver projects on time.

About the role

The Rails Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality web applications using Ruby on Rails. This role contributes to the full software development lifecycle, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver features that meet product requirements and maintain platform reliability, scalability, and performance.

You will
  • Develop, test, and maintain Ruby on Rails applications, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to implement new features and improve existing functionality.
  • Identify and implement enhancements to system performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and consistency across the team.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain documentation for systems, components, and processes as needed.
  • Contribute to platform architecture discussions and propose improvements where appropriate.
  • Work within agile/iterative development processes, delivering projects within set timelines.
Your profile
  • 2+ years professional experience developing web applications with Ruby on Rails.
  • Strong understanding of modern Rails practices, including Hotwire (Turbo, Stimulus).
  • Experience with front-end technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Tailwind CSS.
  • Familiarity with relational databases and caching systems: PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq.
  • Experience deploying and managing applications on Heroku and AWS.
  • Proficient in Git/GitHub for version control and CI/CD workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of performance optimization, testing, and debugging within Rails applications.
  • Product-focused mindset with attention to user experience and quality.
