Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer for a major tram depot extension in Birmingham. The role is 5 days on site, with an initial 18–24 month contract and a daily rate of £400 (Inside IR35/CIS). Start ASAP and extensive site exposure are on offer.

You will review designs, set out works and maintain quality documentation while collaborating with the Senior Engineer and construction teams on civils-focused tasks such as drainage and foundations.

Qualifications

• Experience as Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer.
• Civils experience in drainage, foundations and earthworks.
• CSCS card holder.
• Rail experience advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Setting out drainage, foundations, earthworks and other civils activities.
• Reviewing designs and identifying potential engineering issues.
• Using Total Station, GPS and CAD to support setting out and delivery.
• Working predominantly outside on site, supporting construction teams directly.
• Maintaining accurate quality and engineering documentation.
• Providing practical solutions to engineering challenges.
• Liaising with site teams and the Senior Engineer to ensure works are delivered correctly.

Job Title: Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer Location: Birmingham - 5 days on site Rate: £400/day Inside IR35 / CIS Contract: 18-24 Months Start Date: ASAP

This is an opportunity for an experienced Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer to join a major tram depot extension project, with approximately 18 months of work remaining and potential for further opportunities. The role will be heavily site-based, with a particular focus on below-ground civils including drainage and foundations. You will work closely with the Senior Engineer to review designs, set out works, maintain quality documentation, and provide practical engineering solutions to challenges encountered on site.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

• Previous experience as a Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer
• Strong understanding of civils activities, particularly drainage, foundations and earthworks
• Experience using Total Station and GPS equipment
• Competent with CAD and engineering drawings
• Strong focus on quality, documentation and accuracy
• CSCS card
• Rail experience would be advantageous but is not essential - highways or other infrastructure backgrounds will be considered
