Job summary

Hitachi Rail invites applications for a QC NDT Apprentice position based in Newton Aycliffe. You will gain hands-on experience in visual, penetrant and ultrasonic testing while building a career in quality control within the rail industry.

You will undertake a recognised apprenticeship programme with mentors guiding you through practical inspections, learning to read drawings and QC procedures, and progressing toward professional qualifications in NDT and QA.

Qualifications

• Interest in engineering, manufacturing, quality inspection or rail.
• Strong attention to detail and methodical approach.
• Good communication skills and willingness to ask questions.
• Commitment to safety and quality.
• Willingness to undertake formal study, training and assessments.
• GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above.

Responsibilities

• Develop understanding of quality inspection and NDT through training and practice.
• Assist qualified inspectors with pre-weld, in-process and post-weld inspections.
• Learn to interpret engineering drawings, QC plans and procedures.
• Support dimensional inspections and weld preparation checks.
• Record inspection results and training evidence accurately.
• Assist with non-conformance investigations and corrective actions.
• Maintain inspection equipment, documentation and work areas to standard.
• Work safely in line with procedures and standards.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams.
