Our client is looking for a STE5 Examiner to work on a long-term contract in the North West. The contract has been deemed inside IR35.

Our client is seeking a STE5 Examiner for a long-term contract in the North West, inside IR35. The successful candidate will conduct comprehensive assessments of M&E assets within buildings, lineside, and depots. Main duties include:

  • Conducting visual and detailed OPI inspections to NR standards, following NR/L3/CIV/006/3A, 3B, 3C, 3D, and 3F.
  • Maintaining accurate records of inspections.
  • Reporting issues or lost time to the line manager.
  • Inspecting all elements within reach to identify deterioration.
  • Performing systematic examinations based on structure type and access.
  • Investigating defects to assess severity and changes.
  • Monitoring elements outside regular inspections with proper equipment.
  • Assessing structural conditions considering materials and environment.
  • Documenting findings, condition changes, and photos.
  • Creating technical reports of inspections.
  • Conducting scoping visits for planning.
  • Serving as Responsible Person on Site (RPOS) or Task Supervisor (TS) for safety.
  • Acting as Bridge Strike Examiner for train safety after bridge strikes.
  • On-call duties as needed.

To qualify, candidates should have:

  • Experience in structural examinations, defect recording, and reporting across various structures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
  • A full UK Driving Licence.
  • Familiarity with the railway industry.
  • Qualification in STE4 and STE5.
  • PTS and RPOS/TS certification.
  • HNC in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Proficiency in SCMI and TCMI.
  • Competence in confined spaces.
