Rail Engineering Technician

East Midlands with occasional days based at other sites across the country

Permanent
Role

Tuesday to Saturday 9am-5pm (overtime available on Monday)

Direct is proud to be exclusively recruiting for this exciting opportunity on behalf of our client. This is a hands-on, technical role with a key focus on the inspection, repair, and maintenance of rail wagons to ensure their safe and compliant operation on the mainline railway network.

The Role

* To undertake inspections, maintenance, and repairs to ensure rail wagons remain serviceable and fully compliant for mainline operations.

* Inspect wagons in accordance with MAN-Ra and inspector's handbook.

* Record findings using traffic inspection sheets or tablet.

* Perform any repairs resulting from inspections.

* Communicate with Rail Hauliers regarding wagon movements.

* Liaise with the Team Leader and coordinate repair planning to minimize operational disruption.

* Work closely with local management and customer reps.

* Assess and report spares/components requirements to Team Leader or Materials Manager.

* Measure wheelsets and send reports/documentation.

* Refurbish and repair chocks, documenting completed work.

* Support team operations for wagon wheelset changes and assist in loading/unloading.

* Organize and prepare wagons for maintenance/repair.

* Conduct brake tests and complete associated documentation.

* Perform any additional duties as requested by Management.

The Candidate

* Eligibility to work in the UK

* Must be able to commit to Tuesday to Saturday working

* Accredited welding certification.

* Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification.

* Apprenticeship-trained in Mechanical Engineering (minimum NVQ Level 3).

* Strong mechanical engineering experience in a hands-on environment.

* Full UK driving license.

* Proficient in report writing.

* Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

* Strong problem-solving skills.

* Able to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.

* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

* Customer-focused with strong communication skills.

* Fully understands the scope and responsibilities of the role.
