Job summary

AmcoGiffen is expanding its Civil & Structural Design capability in South Wales, seeking a Design Engineer to join the in-house team in Pontyclun.

You will work on feasibility through detailed design for rail schemes, collaborating with engineers and technicians, and progressing towards professional accreditation. The role offers development opportunities and a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline is essential.
• Working towards IEng or CEng accreditation with a recognised institution.
• Minimum three years' design experience in civil engineering structures.
• Rail sector experience with bridges, earthworks, drainage and related infra.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles and design practices.
• Experience producing calculations, reports and technical docs.
• Knowledge of British Standards, Eurocodes and industry standards.
• Familiarity with structural assessment and design software.
• Understanding of construction methodologies and buildability.
• Effective communication and collaboration across teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and workloads.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering solutions from feasibility through to detailed design.
• Deliver permanent works civils and structures projects across the rail sector.
• Challenge briefs and propose innovative engineering solutions.
• Produce calculations, reports, sketches and design deliverables to standards.
• Support design philosophies and technical approaches.
• Attend site inspections and surveys to inform design development.
• Assist in design checks and reviews; maintain risk assessments/logs.
• Work with technicians and designers for coordinated delivery.
• Ensure CDM compliance and Safe by Design principles.
• Contribute to project delivery within programme and budget targets.
• Attend meetings with clients and project teams; support improvements.
