Job overview

Overton Unit is a 27 bedded ward dedicated to providing a safe and well-being environment for patients that are medically fit and awaiting a discharge destination.
The unit takes a wide variety of patients with complex discharge needs. Situated in a separate self-contained unit, at the rear of the Sherbourne building.

The Band 6 role is the key supporting function to the Band 7 to enable the optimal care of our patients and to the success of our Trust. The delivery of high-quality, effective, and compassionate care is the most important role within the organisation.

A presentation will be required if shortlisted.

Main duties of the job

  • An existing Band 5 registered Nurse
  • Compassionate, energetic individual with a genuine dedication to stroke patients.
  • Someone who works well in a team.
  • Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, and relatives/carers.

What we would like to offer:

  • The friendly and welcoming environment on Overton Unit would be the ideal place to begin your career as a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse.
  • Your professional development will be actively supported in your role by the Clinical Matron and Ward Sister through appraisals, training, and re-validation.

Working for our organisation

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, and Andover War Memorial Hospital.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.

Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement, and excellence thrive.

We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare abdominal cancer) and are leaders in tertiary liver and colorectal cancer.

The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million annually. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors. The Council of Governors represents the interests of their constituencies and influences the future plans of the Foundation Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are happy to discuss flexible working options — all requests for flexible and part-time working will be considered.

Further information about the Trust and this role can be found in the attached Job Description and Person Specification document.
