Responsibilities

  1. View and process physician orders in the electronic medical record, transcribe orders during downtime, maintain bed management records, access lab results, perform clerical duties, and coordinate non-nursing services within the unit.
  2. Maintain accurate and functional medical records for all patients, ensuring completeness and proper documentation of clinical data.
  3. Manage inventory of necessary forms and supplies, ensuring continuous service and a safe environment.
  4. Greet visitors, screen calls, assist with inquiries, and handle correspondence professionally.
  5. Prepare medical records upon patient discharge, including copying and obtaining necessary documentation for transfers.
  6. Maintain patient census records manually and electronically.
  7. Assist with report retrieval and document filing in an organized manner.
  8. Participate in daily discharge rounds and safety huddles, providing relevant reports and updates.
  9. Manage lab specimen reports, equipment paperwork, and other unit-specific documentation.
  10. Orient new staff to the role and responsibilities of the unit secretary.
  11. Communicate pertinent patient care information to nursing staff.
  12. Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Requirements

High School diploma and at least one year of related experience or equivalent. Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology are required.
