Job Title: Senior Sister/Charge Nurse

CYPDU is seeking a highly motivated Senior Sister/Charge Nurse for a 12-month fixed-term secondment to cover maternity leave. The ideal candidate will have experience as a Band 6 Staff Nurse, with a background in SACT administration, Intrathecal and Recovery competencies, and staff management, including workforce planning and administration.

We desire a candidate with drive and passion to lead our nursing team and manage projects to improve the patient journey. The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse will provide strong, proactive clinical leadership to the nursing and support worker team, fostering motivation, support, and clear boundaries to ensure high-quality, safe patient care. The role involves coordinating the nursing team, liaising with MDT members to ensure continuity of care, and upholding the trust’s values of pioneering change, pursuing excellence, collaboration, and kindness.

Main Duties
  1. Create and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and families, including outlying private patients.
  2. Manage resources within budget, including finance, equipment, and staff (including temporary staff).
  3. Provide motivating and supportive clinical leadership to ensure safe patient care.
  4. Support a clinical learning environment to develop staff professionally and promote evidence-based practice.
Responsibilities
  1. Manage a coordinated nursing service in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to maximize high-quality care.
  2. Maintain clinical credibility through practice and utilize research and evidence-based care to optimize patient outcomes.
  3. Regularly monitor and review nursing practices, participate in audits, and ensure documentation complies with policies and guidelines.
  4. Ensure continuity of quality nursing care, including safe discharge planning.
  5. Maintain quality, safety, and performance metrics related to service delivery.
  6. Monitor clinical incidents, analyze trends, and develop prevention strategies.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registration
