Job summary

Cavendish Nuclear, part of Babcock International Group, invites applicants for its Radiation Protection Graduate Programme in Newbury. This two‑year scheme builds radiation protection expertise through structured placements and mentorship.

Starting September 2027, the programme offers a minimum salary of £35,000 with progression under the Babcock Role Framework. You’ll work on decommissioning, safety assessments and regulatory compliance, and may need BPSS/SC clearance.

Qualifications

• An (Hons) degree in Physical Sciences, Natural Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Computer Science or Maths.
• Postgraduate degree in Radiation and Environmental Protection, Safety Engineering, Nuclear Science or Nuclear Engineering is desirable.
• Must be able to achieve BPSS and Security Check (SC) clearance.

Responsibilities

• Assess radiation hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Draft and implement radiation protection policies.
• Review safety systems to meet regulatory standards.
• Provide consultancy support and prepare detailed reports.
• Liaise with regulators and identify training needs to raise radiation safety awareness.
