Job description
Overview

We are seeking an accredited Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) to join a leading organisation in the North of England. The role will focus on advising employers engaged in work with ionising radiation on compliance with IRR17 and/or REPPIR19, ensuring safe and compliant working practices.

Job Purpose

Provide radiological protection advice and training services to practices which utilise ionising radiation.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake site visits to client locations (both onshore and offshore) to inspect working practices and ensure compliance with relevant national and international legislation.
  • Produce clear, detailed scientific reports from site visits and audits, highlighting non-compliances and recommending improvements.
  • Prepare and deliver specialist radiological protection training, including RPS, Radiation Awareness, and Radiation Monitor User Training courses.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities such as the HSE, EA, and SEPA in relation to legislative compliance. Support clients with local rules, risk assessments, and securing permits for sealed sources and radioactive waste.
  • Identify opportunities for further development and expansion of radiation protection services.
Additional Requirements
  • Extensive UK and international travel.
  • Physically fit and comfortable working at heights.
  • Willingness to wear protective personal equipment, including respiratory protective equipment, when required.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal hours, including occasional weekends.
  • Manual handling tasks as part of site work.

  • Opportunities for shadowing experienced RPAs, attending internal and external training (e.g. RPS and RPTS courses, scientific writing, laboratory/monitoring work).
