Job summary

The role covers prototype assembly, product testing and producing technical documentation, with close collaboration to R&D and Production teams on-site.

The ideal candidate will read engineering drawings, handle workshop tools and contribute to product development, improvements and issue resolution.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in engineering, manufacturing or technical assembly.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Good practical engineering and problem-solving skills.
• Experience using workshop tools and test equipment.
• Understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes.
• Attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical documentation.

Responsibilities

R&D Technician | Braintree | Up to £34,000

We are recruiting for a hands‑on R&D Technician to join an established engineering and manufacturing business in Braintree.

This is a varied role involving prototype assembly, product testing and manufacturing support. You'll work closely with the R&D and Production teams, helping develop new products, improve existing designs and resolve practical engineering challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, assemble and modify engineering prototypes
• Set up and carry out product testing, recording results accurately
• Build and modify test rigs and fixtures
• Create and update manufacturing work instructions and technical documentation
• Support new product introduction and manufacturing improvements
• Investigate and resolve assembly and production issues
• Provide technical support and guidance to production colleagues

What We're Looking For

• Hands‑on experience in an engineering, manufacturing or technical assembly environment
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Good practical engineering and problem‑solving skills
• Experience using workshop tools and test equipment
• Understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes
• Good attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical documentation

Experience in R&D, prototype development or product testing would be advantageous but isn't essential. A Level 3 Engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience would be welcomed.
