Job summary

Quantinuum is seeking an R&D Manager - Software in Cambridge to lead the team developing language and compiler tools such as Guppy, HUGR and TKET. You will shape the technical roadmap and stay technically engaged through design and reviews.

The role blends leadership and hands-on software engineering, with emphasis on production-quality, scalable, maintainable systems, and close collaboration with UK and US teams. Hybrid on-site work a few days per week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in CS, Physics, EE, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in software engineering, compiler or PL development, or closely related technical R&D.
• Proven leadership of technical projects or teams.
• Experience making architectural decisions for production software.
• Strong planning and communication skills across technical disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing software engineering team.
• Define and deliver the team's roadmap with leadership and senior contributors.
• Provide technical leadership across the language, compiler and tooling stack.
• Guide software through the full development lifecycle from research to production-ready releases.
• Partner with UK and US teams to align interfaces and ensure stack supports Quantinuum processors, with occasional travel to US sites.
• Recruit, onboard and retain engineers, and improve engineering and delivery practices.
