Job summary

Opsydia Limited is seeking an innovative R&D Scientist to help shape the software behind our next-generation laser processing platform. Reporting to the R&D Manager, you will contribute to research programs from concept through to validation, customer trials and deployment.

You will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, applying photonics expertise to translate research breakthroughs into commercially viable products while engaging with customers and academic partners.

Qualifications

• Significant academic experience in a relevant field, preferably photonics, optics, physics or a related discipline.
• Experience with ultrafast laser applications.
• Creative and innovative mindset with ability to develop new ideas.
• Experience characterising waveguide or optical fibre performance.
• Knowledge of photonic interconnect architectures.
• Understanding of adaptive optics concepts.
• Experience using Python and/or MATLAB for data analysis.
• Strong communication skills; ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
• Driven by innovation and delivering industry-relevant outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Conduct experimental research and development to support technology roadmap.
• Develop and evaluate new concepts, processes and applications.
• Design, execute and analyse experiments; present findings clearly.
• Support product development from concept through validation and deployment.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure practical, scalable solutions.
• Develop data analysis and modelling tools using Python and/or MATLAB.
• Contribute to customer discussions and technical reviews.
• Support IP generation and technical documentation.
• Represent the company professionally with customers and partners.
• Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and market trends.
