Job summary

Opsydia is seeking an innovative R&D Scientist to help shape the software behind our next‑generation laser processing platform. You will work within a multidisciplinary team on research programmes from concept through validation, trials and product deployment.

The role offers exposure to cutting‑edge photonics, collaboration with customers and academic partners, and opportunities to translate breakthroughs into commercially viable products.

Qualifications

• Significant academic experience in photonics, optics, physics or related discipline.
• Experience with ultrafast laser applications.
• Creative and innovative mindset to develop new ideas and apply technologies to challenges.
• Experience characterising waveguide or optical fibre performance.
• Knowledge of photonic interconnect architectures.
• Understanding of adaptive optics concepts.
• Experience using Python and/or MATLAB for data analysis and problem solving.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts clearly.
• Driven by innovation and delivering industry-relevant outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Conduct experimental research and development activities to support Opsydia's technology roadmap.
• Develop and evaluate new concepts, processes and applications using innovative scientific approaches.
• Design, execute and analyse experiments, presenting findings clearly and effectively.
• Support product development from concept through validation and customer deployment.
• Work closely with engineering teams to ensure practical, scalable and commercially viable solutions.
• Develop data analysis and modelling tools using Python and/or MATLAB.
• Contribute to customer discussions, technical reviews and collaborative projects.
• Support generation of intellectual property, technical documentation and publications as appropriate.
• Represent the company professionally with customers and partners.
• Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, market trends and competitive developments.
