Job summary

Hunter Savage is seeking an R&D Project Engineer in Portadown to join their client’s engineering team. You will lead mechanical design, engineering calculations, product development and customer communication, taking projects from initial requirements through to drawings, prototyping, testing and production.

The role offers potential hybrid working and substantial training to develop your understanding of customer requirements and industrial applications.

Qualifications

• Degree or relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Ideally, an experienced mechanical design engineer with strong capability in engineering calculations, detailed drawings and customer-facing technical communication.
• Junior engineers with a sound technical foundation, a proactive attitude and a willingness to learn are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Deliver project engineering, R&D and product development activities from initial concept through to completion.
• Work directly with customers to understand their applications, technical requirements and performance expectations.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
• Carry out mechanical calculations and engineering analysis to support design decisions.
• Develop practical, commercially viable mechanical and electromechanical solutions.
• Translate customer requirements into technical concepts and detailed designs.
• Support prototype development, testing and design validation activities.
• Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers on technical requirements and production considerations.
• Contribute to product improvements and continuous development activities.
• Prepare technical documentation, manuals and engineering reports.
• Manage project priorities and timelines, keeping customers and colleagues informed throughout.

I'm exclusively hiring on behalf of my client who is seeking a R&D Project Engineer to join its engineering team in Portadown. This is an excellent opportunity to work with an engineering business developing innovative engineered solutions for a range of industrial applications.

The successful candidate will be involved in mechanical design, engineering calculations, product development and customer communication, taking projects from initial requirements through to drawings, prototyping, testing and production.

The preference is for a senior engineer who can take ownership of technical design work and customer discussions.

However, the business is flexible and will also consider a junior engineer with a sound technical foundation, the right attitude and a genuine willingness to learn. The scope and responsibilities can be shaped around the successful candidate.

Based in Portadown, this is a permanent position with potential flexibility around hybrid working for the right person. Substantial training will be provided at every experience level to develop your understanding of customer requirements, industrial applications and the wider equipment the business designs and supplies.

The Person

• Experience using SolidWorks, Inventor or similar 3D CAD software.
• Ability to produce engineering drawings and technical documentation appropriate to your experience level.
• A practical approach to engineering and an interest in turning ideas into real-world solutions.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to understand customer needs and explain technical information clearly.
• Good organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in product development, R&D, prototype testing or manufacturing would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of electrical or electromechanical systems would be beneficial.
• A willingness to develop your understanding of products, customer applications and the wider equipment designed and supplied by the business.
