Job Description:
The R&D Packaging Category Manager plays a vital role in driving innovation, sustainability, and efficiency within the packaging category. This position combines technical expertise, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration to develop and manage packaging solutions that align with the organisation’s goals, customer needs, and sustainability initiatives.
Main Objectives
- Develop innovative packaging concepts and oversee the implementation of packaging technologies within the assigned area of responsibility (product category or interdisciplinary projects).
- Act as a consultant for internal stakeholders and customers on all packaging-related topics.
- Lead and execute the packaging aspects of New Product Development (NPD) projects and product changes, ensuring compliance with regulatory, safety, sustainability, and other relevant requirements.
- Monitor, evaluate, and implement emerging packaging trends to drive innovation and maintain competitiveness.
Key Tasks, Skills, and Responsibilities
- Serve as Project Leader/Manager or team member for various initiatives, including NPD, product changes, packaging innovation, optimisation, supplier changes, and quality improvement projects.
- Plan, organise, execute, and report on packaging tests and trials (laboratory, production line, or external).
- Develop, maintain, and approve master data, specifications, assessments, and reports related to packaging.
- Ensure all documentation complies with internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
- Manage innovation processes by gathering customer and consumer feedback, conducting marketing monitoring, and engaging in technology management.
- Attend trade fairs, conferences, and other industry events to stay updated on the latest packaging trends and advancements.
- Present innovative ideas, reports, problem resolutions, and briefings to key stakeholders, including marketing, sales, R&D, supply chain, and external partners (e.g., customers, suppliers, and design agencies).
- Actively participate in internal initiatives and workshops related to organisation strategy, innovation, sustainability, culture, and audits.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment and successful implementation of packaging solutions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools for documentation, reporting, and presentations.
- Skilled in SAP for managing packaging-related data and processes.
- Experience with Adobe tools and artwork management for packaging design and related tasks.
- Prior experience in a packaging role, with a strong understanding of packaging materials, processes, and technologies.
- Experience in artwork management, including the ability to oversee packaging design and branding processes.
- German language skills are advantageous for communication with stakeholders.
