Overview

R&D Manager - Chemicals • Staffordshire (commutable from Stoke, Stafford, Crewe and surrounding areas) • Salary £40,000 - £45,000 (Depending on experience) • Permanent

SRG is working with a leading researcher and manufacturer that development and manufacture high performance speciality chemicals. Based in the Staffordshire area, they are hiring for a new head of the R&D team. This is a great opportunity for a senior chemist with a strong research background in R&D for polymers, materials or inorganic synthesis to move into a management role. Applications from senior chemists interested in managing an R&D team are encouraged. Any previous management/mentoring experience would be a massive bonus.

Benefits: Flexible start and finish (40 hours per week). 25 days holiday + bank holidays. Company bonus and pension schemes.

Role Description
  • Leading R&D for novel materials with applications within the polymers and coatings industries.
  • Researching new chemical technologies in line with the company's product range.
  • Scaling up chemical production processes to pilot plant scale.
  • Liaising with customers, consulting and providing detailed technical support and demonstrations.
  • Solving a diverse set of problems relating to new product development.
  • Managing the R&D laboratory and team within.
  • General laboratory housekeeping and working with technical reports and safety data sheets.
Requirements
  • Degree educated in materials science, polymers or inorganic chemistry. A PhD would be preferable.
  • Significant recent experience managing R&D projects within a relevant industry (materials, nanoparticles, polymer synthesis for example).
  • Experience working within polymer formulation or materials development.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally around the UK and Europe.
  • Ability to travel or relocate to the Staffordshire area.
  • Full right to work in the UK.
