Job summary

The Magnum Ice Cream Company interim Laboratory Assistant role is based at Colworth Science Park, Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire. You will support practical product development activities, organizing laboratory experiments, pilot trials and prototyping to enable rapid innovation.

This full-time 12-month position offers coaching and exposure to end-to-end development in a global FMCG environment, with 37.5 hours per week and a pro rata salary of £25,000–£30,000 depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Education at A levels, BTEC level 3 or higher or equivalent apprenticeship.
• Previous experience in a food manufacturing, laboratory or technical environment is desirable.
• Good understanding of food hygiene, food safety and laboratory good practices.
• Competent user of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word).
• Strong organisational, planning and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and produce ice cream mixes in the laboratory according to specifications.
• Support planning and execution of ice cream pilot trials with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Coordinate ordering, receipt, storage and organisation of materials for lab work.
• Maintain safe, compliant storage areas and follow good lab practices.
• Prepare materials for experiments and prototyping; support pilot plant activities.
• Record and organise experimental data to support development decisions.
• Manage shipment of ingredients and samples to internal and external partners.
• Conduct routine laboratory assessments and testing for product quality.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory workflows and delivery timelines.
