An innovation hub for power systems seeks a professional focused on developing and testing smart grid solutions. The ideal candidate should have experience in power system modelling and conducting R&D projects, alongside excellent communication and technical writing skills. A collaborative spirit and self-starting attitude are essential for this role based near Cumbernauld.
This is an exciting role within PNDC that will be responsible for the development and delivery of cutting-edge innovation projects in the area of power systems. The post-holder will focus on modelling and laboratory-based testing of new smart grid solutions while working with PNDC’s industrial partners.

PNDC is one of the University of Strathclyde’s industry-facing innovation centres, focusing on test and validation to accelerate the development of next-generation power networks, decarbonised heat, and decarbonised transport solutions. It provides a real-world environment for de-risking and demonstrating innovations in a range of areas including grid modernisation, digital substations, power electronics, powertrains, and whole energy system integration to drive the Net Zero transition.
At PNDC, we bridge the gap between concept and deployment, working alongside network operators, technology providers, and policymakers to accelerate innovation. With the launch of the Advanced Net Zero Innovation Centre (ANZIC) in 2025, we are expanding our capabilities to test, integrate, and de-risk novel high power net-zero solutions in transport, heat & whole energy systems as well as power electronics, electric machines, and drives.
