Position: R&D and Applications Engineer
The R&D and Applications Engineer will work within the Engineering department at the Knowles Precision Devices R&D centre in Norwich. From Norwich, support is provided worldwide for multilayer ceramic capacitors, RF inductors, planar capacitor arrays, EMI filters, capacitor assemblies, and other capacitor types, both for R&D and customer applications engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Support internal and external sales teams with technical enquiries, collaborate with Engineering and Quality teams, and other Knowles capacitor group companies as necessary.
- Assist offshore manufacturing with technical order handling, administration, costing, and custom MLCC design work.
- Support existing test lab activities and develop new or modified tests to gather data.
- Participate in new product development, including designing new or modified parts and transferring them to production.
- Develop processes to support new product design.
- Manage and assist with the manufacture and evaluation of samples for product development, including generating reports and presentations, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Create and update Application Notes, technical articles, datasheets, and ensure catalog and web-based technical data are current.
- Assist in sourcing and specifying test equipment, and design and execute lab testing to gather necessary data for technical support.
- Perform other duties as reasonably required.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
- Practical experience in analogue electronics, preferably with discrete components.
- Ability to interpret customer circuits for technical discussions on passive component performance.
- BTEC/HNC/HND, BS degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with electrical and electronic circuits for laboratory testing.
- High accuracy in managing large data sets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong skills in writing and formatting datasheets and technical notes.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Self-directed, professional, and collaborative attitude.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- IT or coding experience is a plus.
- Lab or test experience is valuable.
