Description
The R&D and Applications engineer will work within the Engineering department based in the Knowles Precision Devices R&D centre in Norwich. From Norwich, support is provided worldwide for multilayer ceramic capacitors, RF inductors, planar capacitor arrays, EMI filters, capacitor assemblies, and other capacitor types, both for R&D and for customer-based Applications Engineering.
This role involves supporting technical queries, providing customer support on electrical, electronic, and mechanical matters, conducting product training, updating datasheets and catalogues, and maintaining approval documentation. The position also includes product design and development for customer-specific requirements and R&D projects to develop new products and extend existing ranges.
Key Responsibilities
- Support internal and external sales teams with technical enquiries and collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and other Knowles capacitor group companies.
- Assist offshore manufacturing with technical order handling, administration, costing, and custom MLCC design work.
- Support and develop test lab procedures, including designing new tests to gather data.
- Participate in new product development, from design to transfer to production.
- Develop manufacturing processes supporting new product design.
- Manage and assist with sample production, evaluation, and reporting to meet deadlines.
- Create Application Notes, technical articles, datasheets, and ensure all technical documentation is current.
- Source, specify, and design lab tests for new test equipment and data collection.
- Perform other duties as reasonably required.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
- Experience in analogue electronics, preferably with discrete components.
- Ability to interpret customer circuits for technical discussions on passive components.
- Qualification: BTEC/HNC/HND, BS degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Practical experience with electrical and electronic circuits for laboratory testing.
- Strong data management skills with high accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent technical writing skills for datasheets and customer notes.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
