We are currently looking for a Quarry Manager to join our team at Halecombe Quarry and Asphalt Plant, near Frome. This key role is responsible for ensuring that all materials and products are safely and efficiently produced and dispatched, within budget, and in line with customer expectations. As well as Frome, the site is easily accessible from Shepton Mallet, Warminster, Midsomer Norton, Bath, Bristol, Yeovil, and the surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, the Quarry Manager will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day safe operation of the site. The role focuses on achieving and exceeding production targets, managing costs, upholding safety, health and environmental standards, and leading a motivated and high-performing team.

As Quarry Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring production forecasts and optimising site resources in the most cost-effective way
  • Collaborating with the site team to identify and implement more sustainable working practices
  • Owning and delivering site improvement plans against agreed targets
  • Leading on HSE performance and compliance
  • Managing contractors and reviewing their performance
  • Driving a preventative maintenance culture and allocating resources accordingly
  • Ensuring competent managerial cover is always in place, in line with regulatory requirements
  • Developing operational teams and succession plans through coaching and mentoring
  • Managing capital investments to ensure safe, timely, and budget-compliant delivery
  • Overseeing stock management and working with the supply chain team to ensure optimal sourcing
  • Partnering with customer services and the commercial team to maximise performance through effective stock and product management
  • The Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate for the role of Quarry Manager will be an experienced leader capable of managing multiple operational teams. You will have a proven ability to influence and engage cross-functional teams, ideally within the extraction or construction materials industry. Knowledge of aggregates and asphalt production is preferred.

    Your success will be underpinned by strong communication skills and a leadership style that motivates and inspires. You’ll be confident in managing both direct reports and wider teams to build a culture of engagement, safety, and continuous improvement.

    Suitable candidates for the role of Quarry Manager will also demonstrate:

  • Strong financial acumen, including budget setting, cost control, and cost-benefit analysis
  • A solid understanding of HSE policies, standards, and legislation (NEBOSH and relevant NVQ qualifications desirable)
  • In-depth knowledge of the Quarries Regulations and a commitment to full compliance
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Confidence in planning and delivering structured meetings and briefings
  • A well-organised approach to managing workloads and projects
  • The ability to interpret data, monitor trends, and make informed, evidence-based decisions
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to evaluate operational information to make sound decisions
  • There is a company vehicle with this role so full UK driving licence is essential.
