The Quarry Manager role at Tarmac Torcoed Quarry in Porthyrhyd near Carmarthen, South Wales, leads day-to-day quarrying and asphalt plant operations, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and cost control.

You will manage a skilled team, drive continuous improvement, maintain procedures, training, and KPI reporting, while delivering for customers across the Southwest region. This on-site role offers a collaborative environment and career development.

Qualificações

• Diploma or equivalent in quarry technology or extractives.
• SHE NVQ 4 or QCF Level 6 qualification is preferred.
• Experience with risk assessments, SOPs and training.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Quarry Manager to join and lead our friendly operations team at our Tarmac Torcoed Quarry in Porthyrhyd near Carmarthen, South Wales. As well as Porthyrhyd and Carmarthen this site is accessible from Llanelli, Gorslas , Ammanford, Gorseinon , Swansea, Morriston, Neath, Ystradgynlais, Port Talbot, Lampeter, Newcastle Emlyn, St Clears, Haverfordwest, Narberth, Tenby and the surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Quarry Manager will manage and be accountable for all quarrying and asphalt plant operations on the site. Safety and operational standards are the fundamentals of the role with cost control, people management, delivery to customer needs and performance improvement being key. Managing plant compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring that legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role.

• Managing, coaching and developing a highly skilled, fit for purpose and extremely motivated team using KPIs to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk
• All aspects of budgetary control for all quarrying operations and producing operational reports
• Maintaining and implementing existing and new, Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments and training your staff on the same
• Managing and overseeing the safe operation of the Quarry and Asphalt Plant and the planned preventative maintenance of all the site’s equipment
• Ensuring that the plant meets operational and production requirements
• Managing proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff and keep an up-to-date training matrix
• Collating and report on monthly performance KPIs for your business unit for the Area Operations
• Ensuring a one team approach, having buy in from all members of staff to maximise outputs and have clear working goals
  

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Quarry Manager will have experience in Quarrying operations or a similar working environment and possess a good understanding of Quarry Regulations 1999 as a Regulation 8.1(c) appointment - we will consider 8.1(d).

• Diploma in Quarry Technology/ FdSc Extractives Technology (or similar qualification)
• SHE NVQ Level 4 or QCF Level 6
• Knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals and its applications within the industry. This may include feeding, crushing, screening, washing, separation, classification and beneficiation techniques
• Understanding different methods of winning and extracting raw material
• Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
• Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies
• Strong drive for continuous improvement to reduce costs where possible and minimise waste streams through effective monitoring and processing
• Strong IT skills including SAP (preferred) and Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Ability to multitask and effectively manage change
• Ability to manage staff effectively and empower them to make good decisions
• IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous
