Job summary

Tarmac Trading Limited is recruiting a Quarry Manager to lead the Torcoed Quarry operations near Carmarthen, South Wales. You will drive health and safety, production planning and team development at the site with strong KPI discipline.

The role requires substantial quarrying experience, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to manage budgets, training and plant maintenance. A collaborative, proactive leader is essential for success at this busy site.

Qualifications

• Experience in quarrying operations or similar environment.
• Knowledge of Quarry Regulations 1999 and Regulation 8.1(c/d).
• Ability to load minerals and transport and processing methods.
• Experience with risk assessments and safe systems of work.

Responsibilities

• Manage, coach and develop a KPI-driven team to ensure continuity and reduce risk.
• Oversee budget control and produce operational reports for quarrying ops.
• Maintain and implement SOPs, risk assessments and staff training.
• Supervise safe operation of Quarry and Asphalt Plant and maintenance.
• Ensure plant meets production and operational requirements.
• Plan training and maintain training matrix; monitor staff development.
• Collate monthly KPI reports for Area Operations.
• Foster a one-team approach with clear goals across staff.

Responsibilities

• Managing, coaching and developing a highly skilled, fit for purpose and extremely motivated team using KPIs to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk


• All aspects of budgetary control for all quarrying operations and producing operational reports


• Maintaining and implementing existing and new, Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments and training your staff on the same


• Managing and overseeing the safe operation of the Quarry and Asphalt Plant and the planned preventative maintenance of all the site's equipment


• Ensuring that the plant meets operational and production requirements


• Managing proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff and keep an up-to-date training matrix


• Collating and report on monthly performance KPIs for your business unit for the Area Operations


• Ensuring a one team approach, having buy in from all members of staff to maximise outputs and have clear working goals

Qualifications

• Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology (or similar qualification)


• SHE NVQ Level 4 or QCF Level 6


• Knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals and its applications within the industry. This may include feeding, crushing, screening, washing, separation, classification and beneficiation techniques


• Understanding different methods of winning and extracting raw material


• Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems


• Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies


• Strong drive for continuous improvement to reduce costs where possible and minimise waste streams through effective monitoring and processing


• Strong IT skills including SAP (preferred) and Word, Excel and PowerPoint


• Ability to multitask and effectively manage change


• Ability to manage staff effectively and empower them to make good decisions


• IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous

Location

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Quarry Manager to join and lead our friendly operations team at our Tarmac Torcoed Quarry in Porthyrhyd near Carmarthen, South Wales. As well as Porthyrhyd and Carmarthen this site is accessible from Llanelli, Gorslas, Ammanford, Gorseinon, Swansea, Morriston, Neath, Ystradgynlais, Port Talbot, Lampeter, Newcastle Emlyn, St Clears, Haverfordwest, Narberth, Tenby and the surrounding areas.
