Our client is seeking an experienced and dedicated Quarry Manager to oversee the daily operations of their quarry site in Ireland. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a solid understanding of quarry processes, and the ability to ensure compliance with safety regulations. The Quarry Manager will be responsible for managing staff, equipment, and resources while maintaining high standards of productivity and efficiency.

Their 350-strong team operates from approximately ten recycling facilities across multiple counties and contracts across the UK. With over 160 lorries, their recycling operations cover the South East and have the capacity to process over 1 million tonnes of waste and recycled aggregates annually.

The business has grown year-on-year into a multi-disciplined provider of demolition, remediation, earthworks, waste management, recycling, virgin and recycled aggregates, and ready-mix concrete.

With substantial investment planned for the future, typically spending over £6 million each year on infrastructure, plant, and equipment, they are committed to training and developing their people and providing a great workplace along with excellent products, services, and solutions for customers.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensuring that you receive the right support and resources to maintain efficient operations.
  2. Ensuring the production of recycled products aligns with the WRAP protocol and highway or earthworks specifications.
  3. Uploading and maintaining all relevant information for reporting and record-keeping, including daily site records and weekly returns.
  4. Evaluating operational performance and ensuring effective utilization of resources (e.g., plant and personnel).
  5. Ensuring all plant and equipment are maintained according to company policy and reporting any defects promptly.
  6. Monitoring stocks and maintaining accurate records.
  7. Assisting management with project planning and site improvements.

HSQE

  1. Developing and implementing safe systems of work, including risk assessments and method statements.
  2. Ensuring operations comply with current HSQE legislation and company policies.
  3. Conducting site safety inspections, supporting audits, and ensuring non-conformances are addressed promptly.
  4. Providing visible HSQE leadership and promoting safe working practices.
  5. Reviewing compliance reports and liaising with authorities to maintain standards.
  6. Submitting necessary data returns to relevant agencies in a timely manner.

People

  1. Recruiting skilled operators to meet site requirements.
  2. Managing and motivating teams, setting expectations, and providing performance feedback.
  3. Ensuring staff are trained and competent to perform their duties safely and efficiently.

Candidate Requirements

  • MPQC NVQ in Quarry Management (desirable).
  • First Aid Certificate (3 days).
  • Fire Marshal certification (desirable).
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Extensive experience in site management within aggregates or waste sectors.
  • Knowledge of wash plants, crushing, and screening operations.
  • Understanding of health, safety, environmental, and planning regulations.
  • Knowledge of environmental permits, waste acceptance criteria, and waste reporting.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify operational improvements.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills; ability to work under pressure.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite.
