Job summary

The University of Edinburgh invites applications for a Research Associate to work on the RubberDUQ project in the Quantum Software Lab. You will develop mathematical foundations and practical tools for hybrid quantum-classical programming.

The role is a fixed-term contract (12 months) at UE07 level, with a salary between £41,064 and £48,822 per annum, and opportunities to collaborate with academic and industrial partners.

Qualifications

• Experience conducting research in categorical semantics, programming language theory, compilers, or quantum computing.
• Strong mathematical or software techniques such as category theory or compiler implementation.
• Evidence of high-quality research outputs (papers, reports, software).

Responsibilities

• Develop mathematical foundations and practical tools for hybrid quantum-classical programming.
• Apply categorical semantics to give quantum programs precise meaning and enable correct compilation.
• Collaborate with project team and academic/industrial partners.
