Job summary

Universal Quantum Ltd. is seeking a Quantum Control Theorist to design, model and test high-fidelity quantum operations.

The role involves developing physics models from hardware specifications and working closely with hardware teams to implement methods on quantum devices. You will benchmark quantum operations, analyse experimental results, and contribute to advancing quantum control theory in a fast-paced research environment.

Qualifications

• PhD in quantum computing, quantum control or similar.
• Experience with designing control methods for high-fidelity quantum operations.
• Strong background in light-matter interactions and modelling quantum dynamics in software.
• Proven track record of collaboration with experimental research groups and/or the quantum hardware industry.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results in the field of research.

What You’ll Accomplish

• Design control methods for high-fidelity and fast quantum operations
• Contribute to the development of accurate physics models based on real hardware specifications
• Work with the hardware teams to implement new methods on our quantum devices
• Develop procedures for benchmarking quantum operations
• Analyse experimental results and compare them against theoretical predictions and models

The 3 Most Critical Attributes We’ll Use to Compare Candidates:

1. Experience in designing control methods for high-fidelity quantum operations
2. Strong background in the theory of light-matter interactions and modelling quantum dynamics in software
3. A proven track record of collaboration with experimental research groups and/or the quantum hardware industry

Must-have Skills (in addition to the above):

• Experience with circuit-level quantum noise models and benchmarking of quantum operations
• Proficient in writing scientific code, e.g. using Python
• PhD in quantum computing, quantum control or similar
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results in the field of research.
• This role can be based in Hamburg or worked remotely, but you must be based in Germany for this position.
