Job summary

OQC in Reading, United Kingdom, is building the future of quantum computing with a hands-on Software Engineer in the Compiler and Runtime team. You’ll develop new features in Python and C++, work with LLVM, and contribute across the full software lifecycle from design to delivery.

You’ll collaborate with researchers and engineers to bring new algorithms to production, debug complex issues, and improve code quality and maintainability while balancing new features with legacy work.

Qualifications

• Strong Python and/or C++ programming skills.
• Experience in compiler development.
• Experience taking software projects through the full development lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of core CS principles, including algorithms, data structures, software architecture and operating systems.
• Experience debugging technically complex issues in development and/or production environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on software quality, maintainability and performance.
• Ability to communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly and collaborate effectively with engineers and wider stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own the full software development lifecycle – from requirements and design through implementation, testing and delivery.
• Develop new features and capabilities across OQC’s compiler and runtime software.
• Debug complex issues across development and production environments; drive resolution.
• Evolve, maintain and improve existing code, balancing new feature development with legacy work.
• Collaborate closely with other engineers and internal stakeholders; contribute to technical decisions.
• Review and robustly test code; mentor and share knowledge within the team.
• Design and evaluate technical approaches, articulating trade-offs around performance and maintainability.
