Job summary

Egis UK is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join our expanding Water team, supporting major capital programmes for water companies and the Environment Agency in the Midlands. You will manage commercial aspects from feasibility to final account, applying NEC3/4 contracts and strong cost control.

The role offers progression across defence and nuclear sectors, mentoring junior QSs, and working in an office at least three days per week.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying and progression toward chartership.
• Experience with NEC3/4 contracts.
• Experience in water, environment, defence, or nuclear sectors.
• Knowledge of CDM regulations and risk management.
• CSCS card; Water Hygiene Card desirable.

Responsibilities

• Administer NEC3/4 contracts and support client-side commercial management.
• Support budget control, cost forecasting, and final accounts.
• Assist in pre-contract feasibility, cost planning and tender evaluation.
• Support post-contract delivery, variations and final accounting.
• Contribute to bids and proposals with commercial input.

About The Role

Are you a skilled Quantity Surveyor looking to elevate your career through meaningful infrastructure delivery? Egis UK is seeking Quantity Surveyors to join our expanding team, supporting major capital programmes for water companies and the Environment Agency, primarily in the Midlands, with consultancy opportunities. This role offers a clear path for progression across sectors, including defence and nuclear.

Your Role & Contribution

Reporting to the Water Cost and Commercial Lead, you’ll play a key role in the commercial management of infrastructure projects. From feasibility to final account, you’ll apply your knowledge of NEC3/4 contracts, procurement, and stakeholder engagement to ensure value, compliance, and delivery excellence. You’ll also support senior leadership on strategic bids, contributing commercial insight and helping shape proposals that reflect Egis’s capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Contract & Commercial Management

• Administer NEC3/4 ECC contracts (Options A, C & E) on the client side
• Support budget control, payment valuations, and cost forecasting
• Maintain accurate commercial records and resolve contractual issues
• Collaborate with Project Managers on payment certification and defined cost determination

Pre-Contract Activities

• Conduct feasibility studies and cost planning
• Assist in preparing and evaluating tender documentation
• Identify risks and contribute to mitigation strategies

Post-Contract Delivery

• Support contract administration and ensure compliance with terms
• Monitor costs, assist in negotiating variations, and support claims resolution
• Contribute to final account preparation and post-project evaluation

Bid & Business Development Support

• Work with senior leadership to support bid development and proposal strategy
• Provide commercial input and cost data to strengthen submissions
• Help maintain a database of lessons learned, bid outcomes, and client insights
• Contribute to continuous improvement across commercial and bidding processes

What do we need from you

• Degree in Quantity Surveying (Bachelor’s or Master’s)
• Progress toward RICS chartership or equivalent professional development
• Experience in water, environment, defence, or nuclear sectors
• Familiarity with CDM regulations and risk management
• NEC3/4 contract expertise (Options A, C, E essential)
• Exposure to ECI/ESI in design & build programmes
• Valid CSCS card; Water Hygiene Card desirable
• Line management experience and ability to mentor junior QSs
• Willingness to work in office a minimum of 3 days per week
• Right to work in the UK; this role is subject to client interview and acceptance
