Job summary

Matchtech is hiring a Quantity Surveyor in Newport to support our utilities and civil engineering projects. The role focuses on cost control, reporting, and commercial management across high-volume, low-value workloads.

The ideal candidate has a strong NEC contracts background, subcontractor management experience, and excellent Excel skills. A relevant degree or HNC/HND in Civil or Mechanical Engineering is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience as Quantity Surveyor in utilities, civil or mechanical engineering.
• Experience managing high-volume, low-value works; NEC contracts; subcontractor management.
• Strong Excel proficiency with formulas, pivot tables and VLOOKUP.

Responsibilities

• Generate weekly revenue and cost reports.
• Control submissions of daily completed works.
• Produce Schedule of Rates.
• Reconcile subcontractor costs and prepare payment certificates.
• Liaise with Operations and Planning to monitor progress and scope changes.
• Review schemes to ensure targets are met.
• Price completed high-volume works.
• Develop relationships with clients during Work in Progress days.
• Analyze weekly and monthly cost and revenue data.

We have an opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our high-performing commercial team. As a utilities contractor, we work with some fantastic clients, and this is an exciting time to join us as the industry embraces innovation and greener working practices.
Your role will be critical to ensuring our commercial success, enabling us to invest in new technologies and deliver infrastructure that is sustainable, carbon-positive, and maintained in a way that supports our planet for future generations.
Here are some of the activities you will be involved in:

• Generating weekly revenue and cost reports
• Controlling submissions of daily completed jobs
• Producing 'Schedule of Rates'
• Reconciling subcontractor costs and preparing payment certificates
• Liaising with Operations and Planning to monitor job progress and scope changes
• Reviewing scheme works to ensure targets are being achieved
• Pricing completed jobs for high-volume works
• Developing relationships with clients during 'Work in Progress' days
• Analysing weekly and monthly cost and revenue data

You are an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in utilities, civil, or mechanical engineering.
You should have experience managing high-volume, low-value works and a solid understanding of NEC contract schemes, along with experience in subcontractor management.
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, proactive, and a great problem solver, with excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Strong Microsoft Excel expertise is essential, including proficiency with formulas, pivot tables, and VLOOKUPs, alongside a keen eye for data integrity and financial analysis.
A degree in Quantity Surveying, or an HNC/HND in Civil or Mechanical Engineering with commercial management experience, would be highly desirable.
