Mechanical Quantity Surveyor

My client is a privately owned Mechanical Contractor based in South London who have been operating for 25 years.

As a business, they employ about 35 staff across the board and specialise in Fast Track Commercial Office Fit out projects in London with project values ranging from £500k – £11.5Mil.

JOB SUMMARY – MECHANICAL QUANTITY SURVEYOR

We are seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable Mechanical Quantity Surveyor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of mechanical quantity surveying, including cost estimation, procurement, and cost control. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering high-quality mechanical quantity surveying services on large-scale projects and possess exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare and review mechanical quantity surveying work, including cost estimates, bills of quantities, and cost reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contractual requirements.
  2. Manage procurement activities for mechanical systems and equipment, ensuring timely delivery, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with technical specifications and standards.
  3. Monitor and control project costs, identifying potential risks and opportunities, and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies to ensure project profitability.
  4. Review and assess contractual documentation, including tender documents, contracts, and variations, identifying discrepancies, and negotiating with stakeholders to ensure compliance and minimize risk.
  5. Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
  6. Provide technical guidance and support to junior members of the mechanical quantity surveying team, ensuring high-quality service delivery and continuous professional development.
  7. Conduct site visits and inspections, liaising with site teams and contractors to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, quality standards, and safety regulations.
Requirements:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field (desirable).
  2. Proven experience as a Mechanical Quantity Surveyor, with a minimum of 6 years of experience in a similar role.
  3. Experience with Fast Track Commercial Projects.
  4. Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, and standards.
  5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate project risks and opportunities.
  6. Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients, suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  7. Proficiency in industry-standard software tools, including AutoCAD, MS Excel, and project management software.
  8. Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and priorities, and deliver high-quality results within tight deadlines.
  9. Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify and resolve technical and contractual discrepancies.
SALARY & PACKAGE

£60,000 - £80,000
20 Days Holiday & 8 Bank Holidays (increases to 25 Days after 2 years service)
