Job summary

Gleeds is seeking a Quantity Surveyor – Infrastructure in Birmingham. The role blends local office, home and client-site work with a permanent, full-time contract and flexible core hours.

You'll lead NEC-based contracts, work with design teams on early commercial decisions, and manage contractor engagement. The position requires experience in QS/Commercial Management, with infrastructure, civils or rail background preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
• Background in Infrastructure, Civils, Rail or Utilities preferred.
• Strong communication, problem solving and numeracy skills.
• Professional qualifications like RICS desired, but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Operate NEC and other forms of contract and ensure compliance with contract process and timelines.
• Liaise with design and planning teams to embed commercial considerations early in design decisions.
• Manage contractor and supplier engagement with the client and key stakeholders.
• Support or lead a small commercial team, setting clear goals and overseeing performance.
• Ensure clear communication across stakeholders regarding budgets, risks and contractual obligations.
• Provide cost planning, budget, monitoring and cost control throughout the project life cycle.
• Maintain accurate financial reporting, forecasting and cash flow analysis for client reporting.
• Conduct value engineering and whole-life cost analysis to ensure value for money.

What You’ll Do

What you’ll bring

• The successful candidate will have relevant experience within Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management. It would be beneficial to have a background in Infrastructure, Civils, Rail, or Utilities.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, a methodical way of thinking and the ability to adapt quickly. Excellent problem solving, negotiating, finance and numeracy skills are also beneficial.
• Ideally HNC, HND or Degree qualified in a Cost Management, Quantity Surveying or similar relevant discipline. In some cases, candidates from alternative backgrounds might be considered.
• Professional qualifications like RICS, CIPS, or CIOB desired, but not essential
