Job summary

Stonbury Limited in the United Kingdom is seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join our Commercial team. The role covers commercial management from pre-construction to final accounts, with responsibilities including budgeting, pricing, invoicing, and risk management.

You will negotiate with clients, prepare monthly valuations, and support project teams to maximise revenue and profitability. A relevant degree and strong IT skills, especially MS Excel, are required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Estimating or Quantity Surveying, or significant work experience in construction.
• Experience pricing works from first principles.
• Experience with recognised contract forms NEC, JCT, FIDIC, or bespoke Framework Agreements.
• Strong IT skills, in particular MS Excel.
• Full driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Perform all commercial management duties on construction contracts from Pre-construction through Construction Phase to Final Account and Certificate.
• Carry out financial negotiations to secure clients.
• Prepare realistic budgets to maximise revenue, profit and reputation.
• Advise on commercial matters in planning to ensure efficient works.
• Prepare labour pricing schedules for PayGo pricing and for subcontractors.
• Submit and agree monthly interim valuations and final accounts for invoicing and payments.
• Manage change, early warning notices and compensation events under NEC and other contracts.
• Compile monthly reconciliations and WIP assessments for management accounts.
• Review aged debt and manage retentions to secure cash flow.
• Receive enquiries and tenders; take-off quantities from scope information for pricing.

Job description

We’re looking for a skilled Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join our Commercial team.

What you’ll be doing

• You will be responsible for performing all commercial management duties on construction contracts from Pre-construction through the Construction Phase to Final Account and Certificate.
• Carry out thorough financial negotiations as required in order to secure client
• Work with the project delivery team, prepare a realistic budget for schemes in order to maximise revenue, profit and reputation.
• Advise on commercial matters and implications in the planning process to ensure that all works are carried out to the maximum efficiency.
• Prepare labour pricing schedules for the delivery of the works under the PayGo pricing system and for subcontractors.
• Prepare, submit and agree monthly interim valuations and final accounts to ensure timely processing of client invoicing and payment applications.
• Manage change and identify, prepare, submit and agree early warning notices and compensation events as required under NEC and other contracts.
• Agree and submit monthly interim valuations and final accounts to ensure timely processing of client invoicing and payment applications.
• Compile monthly reconciliations and work in progress assessments for management accounts.
• Manage risk and advise on mitigation of risk.
• Review aged debt on a regular basis and manage outstanding retentions to ensure the business receives its cash from customers on a timely basis.
• Receive enquiries and tenders for works not covered through Framework schedule of rates pricing.
• Take-off quantities from the Scope Information for pricing.

Who we’re looking for

• Relevant degree in Estimating, Quantity Surveying, construction related discipline, or significant work experience.
• Experience of pricing works from first principles.
• Ability to work on construction contracts using recognised forms, e.g., NEC, JCT, FIDIC, or bespoke Framework Agreements.
• Possess strong IT skills, in particular MS Excel
• Full driving licence
