Job summary

Building Careers UK is recruiting an Estimator/Quantity Surveyor for scaffolding projects in the Preston area. The role covers cost planning, tendering, and commercial management from pre-construction through to delivery.

The ideal candidate will have experience in estimators/QS roles within construction, a solid grasp of valuations and final accounts, and strong Excel/IT skills, with a full UK driving licence. Excellent salary and benefits on offer.

Qualifications

• Experience as Estimator/Quantity Surveyor or in a dual commercial role within construction.
• Experience with scaffolding, access solutions, or related sectors is highly advantageous.
• Strong commercial awareness and estimating ability.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for scaffolding and specialist access projects.
• Manage commercial aspects from tender to final account.
• Review drawings, specifications and tender documents to produce take-offs and pricing schedules.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Prepare applications for payment, valuations, variations and final accounts.
• Monitor project costs and produce regular commercial reports.
• Identify commercial risks and value engineering opportunities.
• Support contract negotiations and subcontract procurement.

Continued growth has created an exciting opportunity for an experienced Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.

The Role

• Preparing accurate and competitive estimates for scaffolding and specialist access projects
• Managing the commercial aspects of projects from tender through to final account
• Reviewing drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
• Producing detailed take-offs, cost plans, and pricing schedules
• Obtaining and evaluating quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
• Preparing applications for payment, valuations, variations, and final accounts
• Monitoring project costs and producing regular commercial reports
• Identifying commercial risks and value engineering opportunities
• Supporting contract negotiations and subcontract procurement
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and operational teams
• Supporting project handovers and ensuring a smooth transition from pre-construction to delivery

The Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience as an Estimator, Quantity Surveyor, or in a dual commercial role within the construction industry
• Experience within scaffolding, access solutions, specialist subcontracting, or the wider construction sector would be highly advantageous
• Strong commercial awareness and estimating ability
• Experience managing valuations, variations, and final accounts
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills
• Good understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
• Strong Microsoft Excel and IT skills
• A proactive, organised, and commercially focused approach
• Full UK Driving Licence
