Job summary

Building Careers UK is seeking a Quantity Surveyor / Estimator in Altrincham to manage commercial aspects of refurbishment and fit-out projects. The role focuses on preparing estimates, cost plans and tender submissions, with responsibility for cost control, subcontractor procurement and interim valuations.

The successful candidate will work closely with Directors, Project Managers and site teams, ensuring value delivery, timely payments, and strong client satisfaction across a growing pipeline

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Quantity Surveyor/Estimator in construction
• Experience in commercial fit-out/refurbishment/design&build
• Excellent understanding of cost control and procurement
• Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
• Proven ability to prepare valuations/variations/final accounts

Responsibilities

• Prepare competitive estimates and tender submissions for fit-out/refurbishment projects
• Produce quantity take-offs and cost plans from drawings and specs
• Procure subcontractors and obtain competitive quotations
• Manage commercial aspects from tender to final account
• Prepare interim valuations and applications for payment
• Produce CVRs, cost reports and forecasts
• Identify commercial risks and value engineering opportunities
• Collaborate with Directors, PMs and site teams to deliver projects
• Maintain relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors

Our client is a growing construction and fit-out specialist delivering high-quality commercial refurbishment, interior fit-out, and design & build projects across the UK. Working across a range of commercial sectors, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget, while developing long-term relationships with clients through excellent service and attention to detail. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are now looking to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join their commercial team in Altrincham.

The Role

• Preparing competitive estimates and tender submissions for commercial fit-out and refurbishment projects
• Producing detailed quantity take-offs and cost plans from drawings and specifications
• Procuring subcontractors and obtaining competitive supplier quotations
• Managing the commercial aspects of projects from tender stage through to final account
• Preparing interim valuations, applications for payment, variations, and final accounts
• Producing CVRs, cost reports, and commercial forecasts
• Identifying commercial risks and value engineering opportunities
• Working closely with Directors, Project Managers, and Site Teams to ensure successful project delivery
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors
• Supporting successful project handovers from pre-construction into delivery

The Ideal Candidate

• The successful Quantity Surveyor / Estimator will have:
• Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Estimator, or in a combined QS/Estimator role within the construction industry
• Experience within commercial fit-out, refurbishment, design & build, or specialist contracting
• Strong commercial awareness and estimating ability
• Experience preparing valuations, variations, and final accounts
• Excellent understanding of construction methods, procurement, and cost control
• Good knowledge of JCT contracts
• Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
• Excellent Microsoft Excel and IT skills
• A proactive and commercially focused approach
• Full UK Driving Licence
