Quantity Surveyor - Permanent Opportunity

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor / Managing Quantity Surveyor, this position requires someone with a proven track record in delivering commercially sound Civil Engineering schemes. The ideal candidate will have come from a main contracting background and extensive experience within Heavy Civils/Highways/Rail.

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for detailed cost control and recovery of value on the project, either independently or by managing staff resources. Experience in the administration of NEC 3 & 4 contracts, notably options A, B & C, is essential. Key responsibilities include subcontractor management, client interface, delay analysis, and contract administration.

The role involves establishing project budgets, reviewing contract terms, procurement, cost reporting, contract administration, liaising with clients, managing staff, delay analysis, handling subcontract issues, managing variations, forecasting cash flow, preparing payment applications, attending meetings, and using company software for reporting and documentation.

Person Specification

Technical Competencies

  • Third level qualification (degree or similar)
  • Experience in a QS role, especially in Heavy Civils sectors such as Highways, Rail, Marine
  • Understanding of contract types and cost control
  • Negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to attain BPSS and SC security clearances

Desirable

  • Professional qualification (e.g., MRICS/MCICES)
