The business is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor in Construction & Structural Steel to join its commercial function and take responsibility for the financial and commercial management of a varied portfolio of projects.

This is an opportunity for a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to work across projects from initial pricing and procurement through to completion, while working closely with design, fabrication, construction and operational teams.

Salary and Package
  • £45,000 to £70,000 inc package - Salary dependent on experience
  • Company car or car allowance
  • Full-time, permanent position
About the Company

Established in Market Rasen in 1986, the business has grown from a local steel merchant into an integrated construction and structural steel specialist delivering projects across Lincolnshire and the wider UK. The business provides an end-to-end service covering concept design, planning, architectural design, structural calculations, civil engineering and groundworks, steel fabrication and full building erection.

Its work spans agricultural, industrial and commercial sectors, with projects ranging from smaller repairs and refurbishment through to major developments valued at up to £2 million. The portfolio includes steel portal frame buildings, industrial and agricultural buildings, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, storage units, livestock housing, grain stores, machinery sheds, silage clamps and commercial structural steelwork.

The business retains significant capability in-house, bringing together designers, detailers and CAD specialists with structural steel fabrication, civils, groundworks and construction teams. It also operates merchanting and industrial door divisions, giving the wider business a broad range of construction-related capabilities and allowing projects to be delivered with close coordination between different disciplines.

Why Join Them

For an experienced Quantity Surveyor in Construction & Structural Steel, this provides exposure to a varied project portfolio rather than being restricted to one construction discipline. You will work alongside teams involved in design, steel fabrication, civils and construction, giving the role a strong connection to the full project lifecycle.

The business remains family-owned and has continued to develop its team and capabilities while retaining the accessibility and direct communication of a regional contractor. Its approach is built around responsibility, quality, teamwork and long‑term client relationships, with a project portfolio that includes both repeat work and technically varied construction requirements.

About the Role

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial management of projects, ensuring costs are controlled and commercial performance is monitored from initial pricing through procurement, delivery and final account.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Commercial management of construction and structural steel projects
  • Cost control, forecasting and monitoring expenditure against budgets
  • Preparing and reviewing valuations, variations and final accounts
  • Procurement and management of subcontractor and supplier costs
  • Reviewing project costs, identifying commercial risks and maintaining accurate records
  • Working closely with project, design, fabrication and operational teams
Candidate Background

The ideal Quantity Surveyor will have previous construction industry experience and a strong understanding of commercial management. Experience within structural steel, steelwork, industrial buildings, agricultural construction, civils or another specialist contracting environment would be particularly relevant.

The successful candidate will need to be commercially aware, organised and confident managing costs while working closely with operational and technical colleagues.

Key requirements include:
  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry
  • Strong commercial and cost‑control knowledge
  • Experience with procurement, valuations, variations and final accounts
  • Ability to analyse project information and identify commercial risks
  • Strong communication skills with suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams
  • A practical and commercially focused approach to project delivery
Summary

This is a strong opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor with experience in Construction & Structural Steel who wants broader exposure to construction projects and the opportunity to work within a business that combines design, fabrication, civils and construction under one organisation.

The role would suit someone who enjoys being close to the projects and wants to play a meaningful part in the commercial performance of an established, growing family business.
