Job description

Job Title: Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager
Duration: 12 months

The land export cable team is responsible for delivering:
- The landfall drill.
- Multiple complex and non-complex drills along the cable corridor.
- Open-cut trenching and topsoil reinstatement.
- 275kV and 400kV cable supply, installation, test, and commissioning.

ROLE SPECIFIC WORK PACKAGES: Land Export Cable (LEC).

In support of the Land Export Cable team, the responsibilities for the role include:

  1. Strategic sourcing support - ITT management, bidder relationship management, and detailed ECI / EPCI contract negotiations (contract based on FIDIC Yellow Book).
  2. Commercial evaluation - Interrogation of bidder’s rate build-up, including trenching, Al and Cu cable (£/metre), drilling, plant, labour, plastic, fuel, aggregate, cement, etc.
  3. Inflation management – Apply knowledge of the London Metal Exchange and BCIS (or equivalent) index for tracking variable costs inflation throughout a contract lifecycle.
  4. Internal reporting and presentations to senior management - supporting the Work Package Manager (WPM) on Capex, Risk, and Value Improvement.
  5. Budget Management - Support for live and planned budgets for the Land Export Cable Devex, pre-FID Capex, and Capex portfolio.
  6. Onshore survey GI:
  • Oversee procurement and contracting for Phase 2 and Phase 3 onshore survey GI campaigns in 2025.
  • Provide cost and claim management focused on land access and standing fees, resolve contract disputes, and amend contracts for scope changes.
  • Ribble Overwater Survey GI: ITT and contract management for up to 3 boreholes on the River Ribble.
  • Devex contract portfolio: Management including engineering support, drilling feasibility studies, electrical studies, land drainage, drone surveys, UXO studies, supplier performance, spend analysis, and P2P Kefron support.
  • Land Substation: Evaluate commercial opportunities for a stand-alone Enabling Works contract for the land substations (LSS).
  • Skills/Experience

    • Ability to work collaboratively and develop team members.
    • Experience with procurement approaches: cost indexation, FIDIC Yellow Book contracts, re-measurable contracts, bills of quantities.
    • Proven track record delivering high-value onshore projects on time and within budget.
    • Substantial contract negotiation and delivery experience.
    • Experience supporting early works procurement and closing of commercial agreements.
    • Experience managing claims processes with legal advisors.
    • Recognised degree or equivalent professional qualifications.
    • Good knowledge of contract management including FIDIC, LOGIC.
    • Excellent drafting, reviewing, and negotiation skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with executives, technical teams, and clients.
    • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
    • High ethical standards and confidentiality.
