Job summary

National Gas is seeking a Quantity Surveyor for a 12-month fixed-term contract to manage all financial and contractual aspects of construction projects. Hybrid work in Warwick or Bristol with regular travel across the West Region.

You will lead contract management, cost estimation, and risk oversight, while supporting tender evaluations and dispute resolution. The role demands NEC contract experience, MRICS desirability, and strong leadership in project management.

Qualifications

• BSc Quantity Surveying degree required.
• Construction experience; utilities desirable.
• Experience with NEC contracts (ECI, NEC3/NEC4).
• MRICS Chartered Member desirable.
• Proven leadership in contract and project management.

Responsibilities

• Commercial support to the PM in managing and administering all contractual relationship.
• Contract Management – manage multiple contracts within a defined portfolio.
• Financial Management – manage spend to date and forecast spend inline with contract terms and NGT governance.
• Risk Management – support the risk management process and the continual development of the Risk Register with the PM.
• Tender evaluation – support the evaluation and negotiation process, providing professional advice.
• Dispute Resolution – Lead dispute resolution efforts by providing professional advice.
• Support & mentor other QS & JQS’s.

About The Role

A Quantity Surveyor manages all financial and contractual aspects of construction projects, providing cost estimation and planning, contract management, financial oversight, risk management, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations. They support tender evaluation, negotiate contracts, audit contractor records, and prepare detailed reports to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

• NEC Two Stage ECI
• NEC 3 & 4, Options A, C & E
• RICS Chartered Member (MRICS) (Desirable)
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and advanced skills in contract management and project management
• Experience of managing QS’s
