Job description
Overview

We're currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to join our fantastic Highways team at our Colchester site, supporting projects across the South East region. You will play a key role in our commercial team, working closely with the Managing Quantity Surveyor and building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and client representatives.

Responsibilities
  • Managing sub-contracts: issuing tender enquiries, awarding contracts, and assessing monthly payment applications.
  • Supporting the preparation of monthly CVRs and forecasts (internal and client-facing).
  • Assisting with final account agreements and substantiations.
  • Ensuring compliance with Tarmac and client processes to mitigate commercial risk.
  • Accurately valuing completed work and ensuring timely cash collection.
  • Preparing and submitting monthly applications for payment.
  • Issuing early warning notices and managing compensation events.

A company vehicle is provided. A full UK manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points is required, and occasional travel across the UK may be necessary to support wider team needs – flexibility is key.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience in surfacing or highways infrastructure projects.
  • Strong drive and ambition to succeed.
  • NEC3/4 contract experience (highly desirable).
  • Solid sub-contract administration skills.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills.
  • Commercial awareness and a process-driven mindset.
  • Willingness to travel between sites as required.
  • A degree-level qualification is preferred, but we also welcome candidates with an HND or those qualified by experience (QBE).
Location

The role is based at our Colchester Office in Essex and is easily commutable from Colchester, Tiptree, West Mersea, Clacton-on-Sea, Great Bentley, Braintree, Witham, Ipswich, Sudbury, Halstead, Chelmsford and surrounding areas.
