Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of construction contracts, particularly NEC.
  • Experience in MEP is preferable.

Dalkia Engineering has a fantastic opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our talented West Midlands Commercial Team. This role will initially support the commercial delivery of our healthcare project at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital reporting into the Project Commercial Lead. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing costs, contracts, and commercial risks, ensuring best value while maintaining high standards of compliance and quality. Who We’re Looking For

  • BSC Quantity Surveying or similar relevant qualification
  • Strong working knowledge of the main forms of construction contracts, in particular the NEC Form of Subcontract.
  • A background in MEP would be preferable but is not essential.
  • Familiarity with contractual entitlement to instructions for additional works, and knowledge of remedies in cases of non-instruction.
  • In-depth understanding of the valuation methods applied within specific contracts.

What you’ll be doing

  • Establish entitlement and recover costs for changes to tender documents, drawings, or specifications during the pre-construction and validation phase.
  • Identify and monitor costs related to design development, coordination, and any disruption or delay during the construction period.
  • Regularly identify, maintain, price, and agree on variations and change orders to ensure accurate cost recovery.
  • Review subcontractor applications and variations in line with contract terms, ensuring proper documentation and approvals are in place.
  • Support contract compliance by evaluating project activities against tender documents, contracts, and agreed deliverables.
  • Prepare, submit, and negotiate applications for payment in coordination with the project team to ensure accurate and timely cash flow.
  • Assist with preparation and agreement of the final account, working closely with Senior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Leads.
  • Conduct credit checks to assess financial stability of clients and contractors before engagement.
  • Assist in monthly financial reporting and monitor payment processes to ensure prompt collection and manage overdue payments where necessary.
